The not quite ready for disco bros stumble across Andorra

Jeff and I had been coaching 4 way teams in Ampuriabrava Spain , me the Italian 4 way and Jeff the German 4way . The high winds, tramantana’s, had started up and when they do they last 3 days, so we had time off to go explore the country side. We had borrowed our buddy Mitch’s 3 cylinder pick up truck. a deux chavaux and motored on looking for paragliding sites in the country side of Spain. The first day we found one hill that ended up more of a sled ride to the bottom. We were hoping for something a little more long lasting so we headed on. We came to a road construction and after about 2 hours of sitting in the same spot, decided to turn around and go to the last little town we had passed thru to find a place to sleep. The next day when we got back to the construction I swear the same cars were still there. After 30 min or so we were back on our way and After another few hours on small windy roads we came across the border of Andorra. And until we had crossed the border into Andorra neither of us had ever even heard of it. Its a postage stamp sized little country between France and Spain. There were 7 to 8000 foot mountains on either side of a tight valley as we motored in. It was like a mini Switzerland. We drove for about 30 minutes and into the town of Andorra la vella. In this tight valley the sun would go down about 3 o’clock so we found a room for the night and set out hiking around looking for a good launch site. After a long hike up a narrow trail we found a marginal one among some boulders and laid our stuff out. Luckily for us there was no wind so we didn’t temp fate but the thought of hiking all the way back down wasn’t appealing but it was after 4 so we headed down ,never did get to fly. We got back to the room, decided to head out and find some food. We Found A little restaurant and seeing that neither of us spoke the language we ate something that we both understood. Unlike eating tripe in France when I had no idea what it was. None of that. With our Belly’s full we headed down the street to find what the night life of Andorra was like. Not much going on, in fact not many people on the streets at all. We found a little bar but they were going to be closing for a private party. I turned to leave but Jeff thought that that was a good enough invitation for us to check it out. Turned out to be a wedding party of about 50 or so well dressed folks. So we strolled in and mingled at the free bar. Grabbing a few drinks we wandered over to the dance floor where a DJ was blasting music with lights flashing and fog machines going off every now and then.
It was a scene right out of the movie footloose. The one at the prom with the music’s playing and everybody is standing around the outside or sitting. Nobody dancing. All that’s exactly what this place looked like. Everybody all dressed up and nobody dancing.  Most of the guys were sitting in chairs surrounding the dance floor and the women were standing behind them hoping to be asked to dance but nobody was going to be first. Then out of nowhere the beat got me. Jeff headed back to the bar for a second drink And I started dancing right there in my own space. And as I was doing my casual dance moves I looked all the way across the dance floor and there was a guy sitting there just looking out at the floor with his girlfriend standing right behind him. She knew he would never dance and so when we made eye contact across the room and she saw me dancing in my own space, the beat got her as well. Her dance moves were sultry and sexy, all in her own little space. She was dieing for a moment like this And before you knew it we were dancing together 50 ft apart, clear across the room. Had we been a foot apart from each other or 50 feet we still were dancing together. We both started having a really good time. This boyfriend guy was totally oblivious of what his girl friend was doing doing with me. But then he noticed this long blond haired guy dressed in his best white painters overalls, not really dressed for the occasion, dancing all by himself like a moron. I saw him looking at me, smiling and moving to the music but then he finally did catch on that I was flirting with someone across the room.  Looking back to see who it could possibly be found that he didn’t have to look far, it was his girl and she was putting on some sexy dance moves and flirting back. About this time Jeff walked up with another drink and saw what was going on. The boyfriend got up, summoning some well dressed black guy and pointed me out. Jeff could see the writing on the wall. So he pounded his second drink he headed quickly back to the free bar. Still the only two folks dancing in the whole place were me and this woman. By the time the in-charge guy made it around the dance floor to me Jeff was back with the third free drink.  The guy came up to us and asked which side of the wedding we were there for.  At the exact same time I said bride, and Jeff said Groom, We were busted.  “Sorry guys, private party.” We headed for the door, Jeff still with drink in hand . As I got to the door I glanced back and made eye contact with my dance partner. Her guy was standing right in front of her giving her what for about flirting with some hippy guy but She flashed me a big smile that said” thanks, it was totally worth it”. We wandered back down the narrow streets of Andorra to our tiny hotel room and slept well. The next day headed back to work. Andorra, never knew it existed but I have nothing but good memories of the wedding I wasn’t supposed to be at and an evening of dancing.
